Goodwill resells items to help provide employment training and job placement services in our community. Many Goodwills have drive-up donation centers where attendants can help unload your donation. There are numerous donation locations in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ReStore:<\/strong> ReStore is a company that accepts donations of furniture, building supplies, tools, working kitchen or laundry appliances, and office furniture. ReStore resells the items to help fund Habitat for Humanity, which builds affordable homes for families in Oregon and around the world. In some cases, ReStore may help arrange pick up of larger items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Union Gospel Mission:<\/strong> This is a church based mission that helps Portland residents who are experiencing homelessness, hunger, addiction and domestic abuse. They have a thrift store in Tigard which sells donated items to fund their mission. They accept clean clothing and linens, newer televisions, some furniture, working small home appliances, tools, musical instruments, kitchenware, area rugs, computers, knick-knacks, books and jewelry. You bring in the clothes and they will take what they think they can sell. If your item sells, you get 40% of the sale. You may get store credit for any amount or cash out if you have $25 or more in sales. Any unsold clothing will get donated to charity. They will accept items for sale that are in good condition. For furniture and household items, they will try to sell your item for 90 days and if sold, you get 50%. For jewelry, the consignment period is six months, and again you receive 50% of the sale price. Check your local garbage provider to see what recycling may be offered. In some cases they do charge a small fee. They take computers, laptops, telephones, tvs, VCR and DVD players, cameras, fluorescent bulbs, appliances, water heaters, batteries, BBQ grills, patio furniture, lawn mowers, tools, mattresses and sofas. They take a limited amount of appliances and electronics, but you may want to call first about these items. Keep in mind there may be extra charges for large amounts of garbage that exceed your container storage. Most garbage services can provide large sized containers or dumpsters to a residence for large garbage collection. Note that most electronics, batteries, paint, and other household chemicals cannot be discarded in regular trash. Outside services are available to help with garbage and junk removal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n Washington County Landfill: <\/strong>Washington County has a landfill you can dump items at located in Hillsboro. They charge for some items to be dumped, which can get spendy, but they also take many items for free. Check the hours before heading out and it is a good idea to review their website page on using the landfill so there are no surprises. They offer free estimates and will give you an online quote for the job cost before they begin.
